DIY Dollar Tree Pumpkins: Fall Decor DIY

fall DIY Dollar Tree pumpkins

The last DIY post I shared with you were two fall wreaths made with only supplies from the dollar store. Today, I am continuing the dollar store fall DIY theme with three beautiful pumpkin DIYs. All three of these pumpkin DIYs are perfect for this fall season. They are also not your typical fall colours, which I love! Keep reading for my how-to guide to making three DIY Dollar Tree pumpkins.

DIY Dollar Tree Pumpkins

Pumpkin #1: Large Flower Vase

Supplies:

  • pumpkin-shaped plastic trick-or-treating bucket
  • chalk spray paint
  • fake flowers
  • floral foam (optional)

Method:

  1. Spray paint the plastic pumpkin with multiple coats of paint. Be sure to let the paint dry between coats, and do light coats of paint each time.
  2. If you are using floral foam, place it in the bottom of the pumpkin.
  3. Poke the stems of your flowers into the floral foam.
  4. If you are not using floral foam, bend the stem of the floral bouquet and place it in the bottom of the pumpkin.
  5. Arrange flowers how you would like them to look.

Pumpkin #2: Yarn Pumpkin

Supplies:

  • 1 small styrofoam pumpkin
  • knife
  • hot glue gun
  • yarn
  • 12  craft sticks
  • faux leaves

Method:

  1. Cut a hole in the top of the pumpkin.
  2. Cut yarn into 28-inch strands.
  3. Braid yarn using nine strands, three in each section of the braid.
  4. Tie a knot at both ends of each strand.
  5. Put one end of the braid into the hole, wrap the braid around the pumpkin and stuff the braid back into the hole.
  6. If needed, use a hot glue gun to keep the braids in place.
  7. Continue wrapping the braids around the pumpkin until the whole pumpkin is covered.
  8. Make sure the bottom of the pumpkin is flat so it has a bed of yarn to sit on.
  9. Once there is no more room to stuff braids into the pumpkin, you can cut sections of the braids and glue them in place.
  10. For the stem of the pumpkin, break 12 craft sticks into two smaller pieces.
  11. Glue the craft stick pieces together to make the stem.
  12. Glue the stem to the top of the pumpkin.
  13. Take two fake leaves and stick them on top of the pumpkin.

Pumpkin #3: Tower Vase

Supplies:

  • 2 small styrofoam pumpkins
  • knife
  • hot glue gun
  • yarn
  • acrylic paint
  • paint brush
  • fake flowers

Method:

  1. Cut a hole in the top of one of the pumpkins
  2. In the second pumpkin, cut a hole on the top and the bottom.
  3. Paint pumpkins with acrylic paint. I mentioned in the video I wondered if using spray paint would have been faster, but I since learned spray paint will melt the styrofoam.
  4. Use hot glue to glue the two pumpkins together. Make sure the pumpkin with only one hole is on the bottom.
  5. Stick bouquet of fake flowers into the pumpkins.
