Although we are moving into the fall season, I got a last taste of summer this week with a visit to the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival. I visited the Chilliwack Tulip Festival earlier this year, which is at the same farm near Vancouver. The tulip festival was so incredible and I could not wait to return for the sunflower festival. It definitely exceeded my expectations!
Keep reading for my guide to visiting the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival and for some bright, cheery photos to help you hold onto the last days of summer!
Getting to the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival
If you’ve been to the Chilliwack Tulip Festival, the sunflower festival is in the same spot, about an hour to an hour and a half east of downtown Vancouver.
From Hope/the Okanagan: Take exit 109 (Yale Road West), then turn left onto Yale Road. You will see signs for the sunflower festival on the right.
From Vancouver: Take exit 109 (Yale Road West), then turn right onto Yale Road. You will see signs for the sunflower festival on the right.
I highly advise buying tickets online. Check their website for up-to-date ticket prices, but buying online will save you some money. Going on a weekday instead of the weekend is also cheaper and not as busy.
When to Visit
The Chilliwack Sunflower Festival is open from the beginning of August to mid-September. If you are reading this post when it goes up, you still have a couple of days to visit before it closes for the season on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019. For exact hours and dates, go to the sunflower festival website.
What to Expect
Rows and rows of sunflowers of course! The Chilliwack Sunflower Festival features 35 varieties of sunflowers across 17 acres. There are small ones, giant ones, yellow ones and red ones!
Along with the many beautiful flowers, the festival has gone out of their way to have lots of different photo opportunities throughout the fields, including swing sets and an old car. We walked around the fields taking photos and enjoying the sights for over an hour!
More than Sunflowers
Besides the endless sunflowers, the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival also features 54 varieties of gorgeous dahlias across three acres! The dahlias bring so much colour to the festival. It’s hard to choose if the sunflowers or the dahlias were my favourite part!
